THE  BRITISH  BULLDOG  CLUB

Championship  Show 2009

The British Bulldog Club

Championship club show  Sunday, 22nd November 2009  Nantwich

Judge; Mr Chris Thomas (Kingrock)

The British Bulldog Club held a championship show at Nantwich Civic Centre on 22nd November. What a lovely venue this is and the organisation of this superbly run show rightly make it one of the highlights of the year for the bulldog fraternity.

Although we are seeing a slight drop in numbers of exhibits I was thrilled with my entry of 168 dogs and in every class I had ample to chose winners from, worthy of that title. This was my fourteenth CC appointment in the breed and the improvement in overall health, as well as in breed type, carries on unabated. We are not seeing the exaggeration commonplace in years gone by, with massive, ropey, wrinkled heads and bowed fronts confined to the history books.  I did not have one exhibit showing any sign of breathing difficulties and the numbers of exhibits with small noses and pinched nostrils are definitely in decline. My thanks go to my stewards, Joy Brighton and Sally Tearle, for the smooth running of the ring.

MPD. (6. 4)

1st   Handley & Bradbury’s Kellamuir Britains Talent at Haddaway.

R/W. Although very much a baby has the make and shape to improve with time. Nice expression with a clean skull of ample length and a nice fit and

turn of underjaw. Square front and neat feet although bone could be a little heavier. Pleasing topline but just needs to drop in brisket and mature

     throughout. Moved well.

2nd Sherlock’s Melimels Power N Glory.

R/W. Strong head with enough work and good width between his correctly shaped ears which are well set on a long flat skull. Lovely width between

dark eyes of correct shape. His nose placement is excellent and already has the makings of a correct layback. Lovely width of foreface with good fill

under the eyes. Although he has a good shoulder and depth of chest he has rather too much turn of forearm which affects his foot placement. Good

spring of rib and topline but movement a little untidy.

PD (11. 2.)

1st   Holmes’ Shuckstun’s Festive Cracker.

R/W. Plenty of work in head but no sign of coarseness. Nice length and width of a well divided skull that is a little rounded at the moment but should

flatten out with maturity. Good overall length of head with well set nose between eyes of good shape set well apart. Under jaw has width and turn

and fits nicely into upper. Super front and shoulder with straight bone down to strong pasterns. Compact bodyshape but enough length to allow for

a good topline and tailset. Moved well and a very promising puppy.  BPD.

2nd Taylor’s Hillplace Iron Man.

Br/W.  Excellent length from eye to ear and the skull is wide and well divided. Needs to fill out a little in foreface, which I am sure he will with time, but

already has a nice fit of underjaw with ample width. Front of ample bone down to tight feet. Pleasing topline and overall bodyshape.

3rd  Steel’s Pearcroft Double Diamond.

JD. (9.3.)

1st   Harding’s Pringham’s Rock Star.

R/W. Good length of skull which is well divided with enough work and just needs to flatten out with maturity. Dark expressive eyes of correct shape

set well apart. Lovely fit of underjaw with good pigmentation. Overnose roll could be a little finer but otherwise a quality head. Nicely tacked-on

shoulder and square front. Compact body with good topline.

 2nd Bragger & Hill’s Prideofbully Sir Charles.

Br/W. Strong skull but slightly domed at the moment resulting in a rather low earset. Enough work with a good depth of stop between dark eyes set

well apart. Nose of good size with open nostril, correctly set. The makings of a good front and shoulder but just needs to develop a little more in

width to create more turn of forearm.  Good length of rib and short loin giving a compact bodyshape. Well angulated hindquarters which he used on

     the move.

3rd Davis’ Ivabully City Slicker Ocobo.

ND. (6.2)

1st   Bragger & Hill’s Prideofbully Sir George.

Br/W. Lovely length of head with good skull of ample length and width. Nose set well between the eyes and just developing the correct layback.

Lovely fit of underjaw and spread of foreface. Heavy bone down to neat feet but just needs to mature a little in shoulder to give the correct

squareness. Pleasing bodyshape with good spring of rib and moved well fore and aft.

2nd  Steel’s Pearcroft Double Diamond.

W/F.  Slightly heavy work in skull for a puppy but lovely width between the ears and eyes and good nose placement. Ample spread of shoulder but

just needs to drop a little in chest and brisket. Plenty of bone but a little too much turn of forearm rather spoils his front at the moment.

3rd  Steel’s Pearcroft Argy Bargy.

UGD. (6.2)

1st   Moody & Dobson’s Bulldurham Northern Light.

R/W. Strong head with nice width and turn of underjaw. A little short in neck but nicely tacked-on shoulder with strong bone down to neat feet.

Could be a little longer on the foreleg but otherwise good bodyshape and pleasing topline which  finished nicely with his straight tail.

2nd  Saunders & Gee’s Jaminic Justification at Standproud.

R/W. Lovely width of skull with small neat ears of correct shape set well apart. His skull is well divided with a good furrow running into a deep stop.

Plenty of work in head and ample width of foreface. He does not have quite the fit of underjaw to create the correct expression but otherwise a

strong head. Well tacked-on shoulder with good bone down to neat feet. Pleasing topline to neat backend.

3rd  Davies’ Belgicshako Dee Jay.

PGD. (11.5)

1st   White & Grady’s Hillplace Captain Scarlet at Purebully.

R/W. Nicely proportioned head with a wide skull which is well divided and has just the right amount of work. A wide nose with open nostrils and set

correctly between his eyes. He has a lovely depth and spread of foreface with a good fit of underjaw.  Good width across the shoulders although I

would prefer them a little more tacked-on. He has an excellent depth of chest and brisket and a well rounded rib. Pleasing topline which he kept on

     the move.

2nd  Lunt’s Jaqles Bailey.

R/W. Another of excellent type although slightly coarser in head but not what I would consider to be overdone. Long well-divided skull with ears of

lovely shape and size set high and wide apart as they should be. Good depth through the foreface but just needs a little more spread to balance out

the head. Lovely front and shoulder with strong bone down to neat feet. Well balanced thoughout and well angulated hindquarter. Moved well.

3rd  Hornby’s Anessabull Queens Lander ShCM.

LD (12.3)

1st   Davis’ Hilbull Heeza Lord Mystyle.

R/W. Nicely balanced skull with good length from eye to ear and correct nose placement. Strong front and shoulder with plenty of bone down to

tight feet. Compact body with pleasing topline and well angulated hindquarter. Well presented.

2nd  Stutter’s Yours Truly from Linmist. JW.

R/W. Good width of a well divided skull which at the moment is a little rounded giving a slightly low earset. Lovely depth of body with good chest

and brisket. A little too much turn of forearm mars an otherwise good front. Plenty of rib and short loin giving a well proportioned body.

3rd  Bracken’s Bradiebe Imallwhite.

OD (9.1)

What a super class, I felt very honoured!

1st   Garside’s Ch. Iceglint I’m Harry.

R/W. What more can be said about this dog? Well I will try! This dog was winning CC’s before the changes to the breed standard and he has

continued his winning ways since the changes. This is because he epitomises what a good bulldog should be, unmistakable breed type without the

need for exaggeration. A head that looks good from the ringside and even better close-up. His front assembly is a joy to go over with a beautifully

tacked-on shoulder and strong round bone down to strong pasterns and tight well knuckled feet. He has a bodyshape which looks good from

every angle. Presented in super condition and moved in true bulldog fashion. CC & BIS.

2nd  Iking-Huber’s Ned/Lux Ch. Jabbererwocky’s Cloudless.

     W. Another from the top drawer. Fantastic length and width of skull with ears of the correct size and shape set high and wide apart. His skull has

just the right amount of work and is divided by a correct furrow running into a deep stop. Dark eyes set well apart with a well pigmented nose with

large open nostrils set between. Ample depth and spread of foreface with a lovely fit of his wide well turned underjaw. A lovely bodyshape but to be

hypercritical he does not have quite the width of shoulder of the winner but his balance throughout is superb and his well angulated hindquarters

showed clearly on the move. RCC.

3rd.  Jarvinen’s Ch/Int Ch. Blackhope Brando.

MPB (13.3)

1st   Seal’s Sealaville She’s Porcha.

R/W. Surprisingly mature for such a baby and of lovely type. Attractive head which should break up nicely. Ears a little untidy but well set on her

skull of good width and length. Lovely width between the eyes and her nose, which is already beginning to settle between the eyes, is of a good

size with open nostrils.  Balanced, well constructed front and shoulder with plenty of bone down to strong pasterns and neat feet. Short coupled

body and nicely made backend. A most promising youngster.

2nd  Davis’ Sebyan Ice Is Nice Mystyle.

R/W. Not quite the maturity of the winner but another cracker. Square skull with nicely shaped ears set on the corners of a flat skull with good length

from eye to ear and enough work without appearing coarse. Just needs to develop a little more thrust of underjaw to complete the picture. Excellent

front and bodyshape. Beautifully presented and moved well.

3rd  Davis’ Sebyan Bright Sunset Mystyle.

PB (16.4)

1st   Davis & Seal’s Sealaville She’s Rio Rowendale.

F/W. A very mature puppy who oozes quality. Nose already showing the correct layback and set well between the eyes. Lovely length of foreface

with plenty of cushion and fill under the eyes. Super width, turn and fit of underjaw. Tacked on shoulder giving the correct square front. Nice spring

of rib and pleasing topline leading to a well angulated hindquarter that is a little beefy at the moment but should fine down as she matures. A quality

youngster who I had great pleasure in awarding BPIS.

2nd  Handley’s Haddaway She’s The One. R/W. Not the maturity of the winner but has so much to like. Very feminine expression with lovely dark eyes

and excellent pigment. Large open nostril and good depth through the foreface. Good shoulder giving a square front with straight bone down to

strong pasterns and tight feet. Just needs to drop a little in brisket. Lovely topline finished off neatly by her straight, well carried, tail. She moves well

and seemed to be enjoying her day out.

3rd  Hodgkinson’s Bullpei Dori McKane.

JB (17.8)

1st   Collins’ Celticpride Dior at Croftthorn.

F/W. Excellent well divided skull with neat symmetrical work. Head breaking up nicely and her nose is set perfectly and tipping back. Good width of

foreface with meaty flews of correct length. Super front with tacked-on shoulder and ample bone down to strong pasterns and tight feet. Her barrel

rib, short loin, correct topline and well angulated backend makes good viewing from every angle. A cracking young bitch.

2nd  Trevor’s Dempsey Simply Eve

W/R. Strong head with excellent width of skull and good length from eye to ear. Skull a little domed at the moment which is affecting her earset but

should flatten out with maturity. Lovely width and fit of underjaw and super pigmentation. Well tacked on shoulder and good bone to neat, well

knuckled feet. She is short coupled and has a good overall bodyshape.

3rd  Armstrong’s Craghyde Divine.

NB (8.2)

1st  Celticpride Dior at Croftthorn. (repeat)

2nd  Norris’ Jumano Jill ‘N Tonic

R/W. Not quite the maturity in head of the winner but has lots to like with an open nose well placed between dark eyes set well part. She falls away a

little under the eyes but otherwise has a pleasing foreface. Good width of shoulder with strong bone to neat feet. Lovely body in profile with a good

arch of neck into a shapely topline and strong backend with well let down hocks.

3rd  Moody & Dobson’s Bulldurham Cosmic Girl.

UGB (4.1)

1st   Chetwynd’s Celticpride J’adore at Rhydycroesau.

     W. Beautiful head and expression with super width between the ears and a skull which is well divided and carrying just the right amount of work.

Lovely width between the eyes and an excellent nose with open nostrils placed perfectly between. Nicely spread foreface of ample depth and a

beautiful fit of underjaw which has width and turn. The makings of a good front but just needs to develop a little more in shoulder to give the

required squareness with a little more depth to the brisket. Good neck into pleasing topline and an overall quality bodyshape.

2nd  Hurst’s Bollglade Tyler.

F/W. Different head type to 1 but has strength of skull and good width between her dark eyes, although her nose placement could be a little higher.

Nicely tacked-on shoulder but a little too much turn of forearm which spoils an otherwise good front. Short coupled body with a good barrel rib and

     tidy hindquarter.

3rd  Davies’ Avapal Distinction.

PGB (15.4)

1st   Holmes’ Shuckton’s Funky Diva.

R/W. Classic look to this head of excellent length. Dark eyes of correct shape set well apart with a large nose with open nostrils set at just the right

height between. Lovely length of foreface with good depth and plenty of fill under the eyes. She has plenty of width and turn of underjaw which fits

so nicely into the upper giving that typical expression. Looks good from above with her pear shaped body and well defined shoulders but just

needs to develop a little more squareness to her front which at 18 months she has plenty of time to do. Lovely topline to a correctly made

     hindquarter.

2nd  Lee’s Mellowmood One in a Million.

R/W. Not quite the length of head of the winner but still a look of quality. Strong skull leading to good frontal bones and a deep stop. Large nose

with open nostrils set between dark eyes. A little tight in front but otherwise a very nice bodyshape.

3rd  Davis’ Milasha She’s So Lovely Mystyle.

LB (16.5) What a fabulous class! One of the few occasions where I could have handed out half a dozen first prize cards.

1st   Wain’s Blackhope Stardust at Bondabull (Imp Fin)

Br/W. Beautifully balanced head with well shaped ears set on the corners of a wide flat skull. Eyes set well apart and nicely framed by frontal bones.

Nose large and open and set back between the eyes. Good length of foreface which is well cushioned and finished by a lovely fit of a wide true

underjaw.  A quality head but it is in body that this young lady excels. A well arched neck flows into the best topline of the day. It is difficult to get

just the right length of body to avoid looking long but allow space to accommodate the correct roached back. She has it all, a lovely tacked on

shoulder, good barrel of rib, nicely tucked-up underline, a strong backend with good angulation and a beautiful topline that flows from front to back.

It was a pleasure to award this super bitch her third & crowning CC & RBIS.

2nd  Belsham’s Admirabull Freesia.

R/W. Another outstanding youngster who, at 13 months, will go from strength to strength. Her head is most attractive and nicely balanced

throughout although to be hypercritical her nose placement needs to be slightly higher, this should come with maturity. Super front and shoulder

with plenty of bone and correct well-knuckled feet. Cobby body with a lovely spring of rib, short loin and sturdy backend. Happy to award her the

RCC and I am sure her title will not be long in coming.

3rd  Laesson’s Jabberwockys Enjoy Me for Britisher.

OB (10.1)

1st    Davis’ Ch. Mystyle Eye Candy Ocobo.

     W. A quality bitch with a super width between her ears and great length from eye to ear. A well padded foreface of good width and depth with a

lovely fit of underjaw. Tacked on shoulder with plenty of bone in front. A nicely rounded rib and short loin with a good topline makes this young

lady look good from any angle. Moved and presented well.

2nd  Taylor’s Ch. Hillplace Ironlady.

Br/W. This well-known bitch has so much to like. Strong head without any hint of coarseness. Well divided skull with neat work. Fabulous width

between the eyes and an excellent nose placement. Overnose roll a little heavy but she has a well padded foreface which has depth and width.

Lovely front and shoulder with such heavy bone and neat feet. Super barrel rib and roached topline. Well constructed hindquarter with nice

angulation and well letdown hocks. Could be a little finer in the backend but overall another champion from the top drawer.

3rd  Lee’s Mellowmood Ska.

Vet. D/B (7.5)

1st   Webster’s Spalfords Karaoke Queen.

R/W. This 7 year old certainly does not look her age. Strong skull of excellent shape. Lovely fit of underjaw with great width and turn. Super

pigmentation. Strong front and shoulder with plenty of substance throughout.

2nd  Jay’s Edstrong Trevan.

Br/W.  He may be 7 ½ but unfortunately no one has told him. During the fleeting moments he did stand still I found him to have a super length from

eye to ear on the flattest of skulls. Ears set high and wide. Well put together fore and aft and moved freely (literally). Both of these exhibits are a

credit to their owners and were obviously enjoying their day out.
